The Baptist church of Mizoram (BCM) Zoram Baptist Mission ( former ZBM) choose Dhubri to be the centre for spreading the gospel of salvation, Dhubri is situated on the bank of river Brahmaputra covered by green canopy of trees and bamboo, before the independence of India, the English people from Europe had already settled in Dhubri town for business and not for the sake of gospel of salvation which paved way for the Zoram Baptist Mission (ZBM) to where the gospel of salvation amongst the people in and about Dhubri area. The English settlement in Dhubri owned vast lands. Church building and cemeteries which made it easy for Zoram Baptist Mission (ZBM).
After the Independent of India and the leaving of the English settlement from Dhubri. The Gov't of Assam took into custody a church and a cemetery leaving another cemetery in the hands of the Zoram Baptist Mission (ZBM) gratefully which is now where this very Bethel Baptist Mission School (BBMS) Church Road Bidyapara stands where the mission runs. After The retirement of the first ever ZBM Missionary Rev.C. Khuala in Dhubri, 1st Jan 1977, The ZBM committee appointed me to take in charge.
I, along with my family left for Dhubri on 2nd Jan 1977 and by the grace of God we solely reached Dhubri at 9:00 pm 3rd Jan 1977. On 11th Jan 1977, I and rev. C. Khuala conducted personal meeting where we had a serious discussion on various important issues. There were certain things he asked of me to accomplish and the thing he considered most important what he said was to establish an English medium school here in Dhubri otherwise, our ministry won't be the effective. And saying all that had to be said and done, he handed me in charge of the mission in Dhubri.
Then after closing our meeting with prayer, he, with his wife together left for Mizoram by bus the following night. The establishment of BBMS God had called me to work Dhubri Mission through the ZBM, and by replacing Rev. C. Khuala who had asked of me to establish English Medium School as one of the instruments for our Misson work in Dhubri. After years rolled by, The BCM assemble made Dhubri a separate field in the year 1989. The Dhubri field committee placed a request before the ZBM asking for the establishment of an English Medium School in Dhubri field.
The BCM assembly on march 1991 permitted to open the English medium school in Dhubri. By the grace of God on Jan. 21, 1992 the school was finally opened. When the BBMS was being inaugurated on 21, 1992, Mr. Lungria ding aps. The term "Bethel" means " House of God", It is the place where people come together to worship God as they called in the Bethel. When this School was being opened. The Mother Church in Mizoram that was sponsoring that year, The people of God in selecting different places had come together to worship God that was called as the place of Bethel. They were renewing their commitment to God and were happy in the Lord. In remembrance of the people of God in Mizoram renewing their commitment to God and the opening of the school falls in the same year. and as such we named the school, “Bethel Baptist Mission School”. ~by Rev.C.Zatawna
